Making Your Very Own Enamel Pins: With Tower Press!

You don't have to take our word for it. You know enamel pins are literally everywhere. From designated hashtags on Instagram to full on Pin Cons... EV-ERY-WHERE. I love collecting enamel pins myself, and even have a lot of vintage pins from the 70s and 80s (which means these never go out of style), and I'm sure your jacket is covered in them too. Bottom line... they're just FUN. They're also fun to have made!
The enamel pins made through us at Tower Press are more affordable than you may think. Our pins are made at a price point with reselling in mind. Most of our clients want to sell these in their shops and online stores, and our goal is to always help you elevate your brand. And it's even better when you start making profits!
So how do you choose? Where do you start?
Your artwork is (obviously) the most important part of the process. The simpler the better. We cannot replicate any photo realism, gradients, or super detailed lines. Our team will gladly work with you on simplifying your artwork or vectorizing a sketch -- on the house! It was really important to us to take out all the headaches that most people experience when ordering enamel pins. We took all the horror stories we heard and made sure that ordering with us would be as seamless as possible.
Tower Press offers both hard and soft enamel pins. Soft enamel is probably the most popular (it's also the least expensive of the two) and features the design raised from the metal. Hard enamel is a totally smooth and polished design.
An example of a polished design as a hard enamel pin for The Citrus Society. These were plated on gold metal with three color fills, and a pin back card for extra finesse.
Plate colors come in 12 (with more coming soon!) different types of metals, the main plates being matte and shiny gold, silver, black nickel (think a gunmetal color), and dye black (true black). But, the other variations include copper (rose gold), chrome (VERY shiny!), and bronze. The plate is what the art is actually sitting on. Pick a metal that will easily compliment your artwork, some of it will show through!

Enamel fills can be any color you want, and we can even Pantone match if you need to get super specific (please ask for this service ahead of time!). If you need help choosing your plate color too, we can definitely suggest what we think would look best with your artwork. We offer FREE proofs before full production runs, so you can always trust that your enamel pins will come out just like you envisioned.
Most pins look great at 1" or 1.25", but if you're thinking bigger is better, we can do them as large as 2" or 3" too! For pins larger than 1.25", we do recommend a double post on the back. This helps keep the enamel pin secure on a lapel, so that it doesn't "flip" around. If you're unsure what your size and art requires, we will be happy to give you some suggestions.
Another thing to consider, is the back of your pin! We offer both the traditional butterfly claps, as well as the rubber stop backs. Neither is better than the other, it's all your personal preference. Though, with any gold plated pin we do recommend the gold butterfly clasp, just for a more streamlined look.
Also when thinking about the back, you can still get a little creative here as well. Do you have a simple logo or Instagram name or website you'd like to add? We can either laser etch it (black ink), or hot stamp it! We don't recommend doing this for the super tiny pins, and anything with several letters or characters is also not recommended.

Lastly, we accept just about any file type for enamel pins, though a hi-res PDF is always preferred. Easy, right? All enamel pins come individually packaged in cellophane, but we recommend pushing your brand even further by printing backing cards for them! Depending on the size of your pin, 2x3" or a business card size of 2x3.5" work really well for these, and they really bring the item together as a beautifully put-together package!
If your artwork is less than 5 colors you can order online. If you think your artwork is a little more complicated, or you want to add some extras like glitter, back stamps, chains, or glow in the dark fills, contact us first!
Happy Pin-ing!
